MoU Partner: MRSPTU Bathinda
R&D POLYTECHNIC COLLEGE

Pioneering Technical Excellence & Industrial Innovation

Established in 1982 by the Government of Punjab with technical assistance from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and UNIDO. Today, collaborating with Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), Bathinda.

HISTORICAL FOUNDATIONS

Four Decades of Engineering Leadership

The R&D Centre for Bicycles and Sewing Machines was established in 1982 as a premier autonomous society by the Department of Industries & Commerce, Government of Punjab, under a milestone international cooperation program supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

Recognizing that Ludhiana was the undisputed capital of India's bicycle and sewing machine manufacturing, the Centre was established to upgrade regional manufacturing quality from rudimentary craftsmanship to world-class precision engineering. The Polytechnic College Wing was subsequently integrated to train hands-on diploma technicians equipped with live production, tool making, and CNC expertise.

Govt. Autonomous Body

Governed by an apex Board of Governors chaired by the Principal Secretary, Industries & Commerce, Punjab.

UNDP/UNIDO Inception

Equipped with original precision machinery and testing rigs commissioned by United Nations technical advisers.

LANDMARK ACCORD

The Strategic MoU with MRSPTU Bathinda

In October 2026, the R&D Centre entered into a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), Bathinda, ushering in a new era of polytechnic university collaboration.
